How to treat mouth wrinkles and beat the barcode effect.

The so-called “barcode” is not only unsightly, it is also a merciless sign of the passing of time. Prevention, with hyaluronic acid-based injections, is the best cure.

Wrinkles tell a story, our story. From the arrangement of one’s wrinkles you can understand their cause: cutaneous aging, repeated muscle contraction, or both.

The infamous barcode

Have you ever noticed those vertical lines around the lips? They earned themselves the name “barcode” because they recall the sequence of alternating thin and thick lines on product packaging. They are almost exclusively female wrinkles, due not only to loss of tone but also to repeated muscle contraction. Indeed, barcodes are more frequent in female smokers, or in women who exaggeratedly contract their lips while speaking. And in one’s skin tone is light or medium and has been exposed to too much sun, the lines are all the more pronounced.

Wrinkles are difficult to treat: prevention is the best cure.

Mouth wrinkles are the most difficult to treat. For this reason, the most important step in treating perioral lines is preventing their appearance: start treating this area with injection cycles of linear hyaluronic acid early – if your skin is fair, even before your 40s. In advanced or more resistant cases, injective treatment with fillers (cross-linked hyaluronic acid) should be avoided, as it could even make the appearance of the area worse by making it feel and look swollen and hypercorrected. In the latter cases, too, cycles of linear hyaluronic acid injections are the best treatment to revitalize the area.

Always ask an expert.

In order to choose the most suitable treatment, it is essential to consult a specialist. The perioral area houses important vascular and nerve structures, making expert hands imperative. Your specialist of choice will also be able to recommend the use of specific creams and cosmetic products for the lip contour.
